Matching Pieces

It seems as though every time I make a matching set, a buyer doesn’t want the bracelet, doesn’t wear earrings or doesn’t like hoop earrings, or for some other reason wants only part of the set.

So, I don’t ordinarily make sets to start with. However, if you want matching earrings and/or a bracelet, they can usually be done.

The exceptions would be vintage beads of which I have no more or an unusual cut of gem stone that I am out of and can no longer obtain.

" I want to see the piece first" you say. Of course you do, and here's how we will  deal with it. This is the same process I use for custom orders, except that we are working from an existing piece, and it's generally easier:

  • I do a layout or two or a temporary stringing, based on the information you furnish about the style you would like.

  • I take photos (thank goodness for digital cameras) and send them to you by e-mail.

  • You offer your input.

  • I make small changes, send you updated photos and advise you of the cost.

  • You respond "that’s just what I want" and pay me.

  • I put the item together "for real" and send it  off.

Obviously, this process won’t work if you wanted the complete set "yesterday."

Now, if all you want is a pair of matching earrings, and you can point out a pair on this site that you like, the process of making them up in beads to match the existing necklace is much simpler.

SIZING

We always state the length of the pieces offered here. Most (although not all) can be adjusted for a small charge. So, if you see a design you like but it’s not the length you want, ask - that won’t cost anything.

Often, it's easiest to size a necklace or bracelet using one that you already own and find comfortable.

  • For a necklace, measure the inside dimension of the shortest strand of a necklace that you find comfortable, or measure your neck to the point where you want the necklace to fall.

  • Use a narrow measuring tape or, if you don’t have a narrow one, use a piece of string and then measure the string.

Follow the same procedure for a bracelet. Remember, it's the inside measurement that counts. The outer circumference will depend on the size of the beads and fittings used, and does not affect the way a piece fits your neck or wrist.

Custom Orders: the whole story

You’ve seen a piece in my gallery and you really like it.

  • Most of the pieces I make are one of a kind; however, it may be possible to make a similar piece.

  • Email me; tell me which piece and what in particular you like about it. Then we’ll talk.

You have a particular style and/or material and/or color in mind.

  • Email me with that information and we’ll talk.

You have a vintage bead necklace that belonged to Great Aunt Sadie . It has great sentimental value and you’d like to be able to wear it, but it’s too short or the stringing broke and pieces were lost.

  • I love rescuing old bead jewelry.

  • Email me with a description and, if possible a picture and we’ll talk. (You knew that was coming, didn’t you?)

A word about weddings:

  • I don’t do them! (OK. That was four words...)

  • I’m a crone and I no longer do things that bore me.

  • If I could do the design and pass the stringing off to an assistant it would be different.

  • But I don’t have an assistant so I don’t make many multiples of the same piece.

  • If it’s just you and your maid-of-honor, email me and we’ll talk.

Anybody that likes my jewelry is brilliant, so I’m finished giving examples, because I know you understand the process now: Email me and we'll talk.

PS: There is a $20 non-refundable, up-front design fee for custom orders. If we "make music together," the fee will be deducted from the total price of the special-for-you creation.

Sincerely,
